Ok so which mode of space transportation do you think is the most Feasible??

Hyperspace (Star Wars)
Warp Speed (Star Trek)
Star Gate (Stargate) stargate
FTL Drive (Battlestar Galactica) toaster

FTL; Going faster than light is not feasible according to our modern physics. The closer you got to the speed of light the more time (for you) would slow down. Weird. Hyper space would suffer from the same effects as the FTL. Sorry Han, your aluminum falcon isn't going to do .5 past light speed. I forget what the premise of Warp speed is but a wormhole like stargate would be the most likely form imo. Space can be bent and possibly pinched together. stargate = win

I thought the FTL drives on Galactica were more like space time folding jumps???

with Star Wars it's not really going faster then light in this realm their basis is that you break the time space barrier an travel on a semi-alternate realm(sorta making your own wormholes)
with Star Trek I do believe that is similar to FTL
with BSG is based off hyper accelerating an object
with Stargate hey work with existing wormholes that already connect 2 locations

Whats hyper-accelerating?

Im going to say Stargate first then BSG a distant second. Although they never really explain how FTL works in the old or new series.

anything "worm hole" based currently seems to be the most theoreticaly possible, so any travel based off that is what i vote for.

OK...I have to jump in on this one.

Personally I think that ships in both Star Wars & in Stargate use essentially the same technology, just with slightly different names.

A comparison:
An Imperial Star Destroyer uses a hyperdrive that takes the ship out of normal space, and allows travel through hyperspace. They can cross the galaxy in a matter of days.

An Asgard (also Goa'uld, Ancients, & later human) ship opens a hyperspace window, and travel through hyperspace. They can also make trans-galactic trips in a matter of days. Additionally, the Asgard are capable of inter-galactic travel.

I would say that Star Wars & Stargate are both using essentially the same technology...

Star Trek's ships are just SLOOOOOOW in comparison. C'mon, in Voyager it would take about 75 years at Voyager's maxiumum speed (Warp 9.975) to return to the Alpha quadrant...

I know nothing about Battlestar Galactica- I've only seen the pilot.

So I'd call the engine technology a tie between Star Wars & Stargate.

Just FYI for the Stargate option that was for the Gates themselves not the ships on the show. But the ships are real cool!

Bah. Didn't notice that it was specifically the 'gate...

As another option, I'd throw in the space-fold drive from Robotech/Macross.

Instantaneous space travel. In many ways similar to the stargate itself...instead of a wormhole, the ship's drives just fold space time, and step from one location to another.

This was an excerpt from a wiki article on Battlestar FTL

"According to producer interviews in the season one DVD release of the series, the special effects director indicated that the FTL is a dimensional transport effect, where the ships instantaneously teleport from one place to another."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FTL_(Battlestar_Galactica)

I have heard that there is actual real work being done for teleportation of radio waves. Long ways from solid objects but its a start.
