OK...I have to jump in on this one.
Personally I think that ships in both Star Wars & in Stargate use essentially the same technology, just with slightly different names.
A comparison:An Imperial Star Destroyer uses a hyperdrive that takes the ship out of normal space, and allows travel through hyperspace. They can cross the galaxy in a matter of days.
An Asgard (also Goa'uld, Ancients, & later human) ship opens a hyperspace window, and travel through hyperspace. They can also make trans-galactic trips in a matter of days. Additionally, the Asgard are capable of inter-galactic travel.
I would say that Star Wars & Stargate are both using essentially the same technology...
Star Trek's ships are just SLOOOOOOW in comparison. C'mon, in Voyager it would take about 75 years at Voyager's maxiumum speed (Warp 9.975) to return to the Alpha quadrant...
I know nothing about Battlestar Galactica- I've only seen the pilot.
So I'd call the engine technology a tie between Star Wars & Stargate.
